Yes, I did it.

"You cannot cook! Don't blame me when your mother in law complains! I tried teaching you! You don't want to learn! I have given up on you! Just a couple more months! I'll cook in this house till your next birthday! After that, you're on your own! Your dad too. Nobody helps he around here. I'm sick of being the maid servant of this house!"

(That's my mom.)

*Grumpy voice* No, I'm almost done. I don't need any help.
(That's my mom when she is in ANY stage of the cooking process.)

Yeah, big deal. She cooked once. I cook everyday. Don't fuss over her too much. You spoil her.
(That's her when I cook when she is at home)

Why don't you cook for me too. Even I want to put up my feet. You be me for a change. Why do you have to cook only when I am away?
(That's her when I cook when she is not around)

It is a lose-lose-lose-lose situation. Don't get me wrong. I love my mom and I love her food. Also, I definetly cannot do even a half of how much she does!

But every once in a while I like to prove to myself that push comes to shove, I can manage a house. Well, the cooking bit atleast.

So this weekend, I cooked. I soaked stuff and made dosas in the morning. I have never made them from scratch before. They came out fluffy and nice, I must say! =) In the afternoon I made curry, and daal (again a first) and rice. They were pretty decent as well.

I need a book by  my side, yes. But I can cook. It's not some exam. I don't need to know everything by heart.

I'm proud of myself.

Two thousand and Nine

Play by play of the year, that's in my diary.

I'll focus on the good-

1. I am done with my 'boards'. They were really crappy days.

2. I got a pretty decent CET score and marks too, hence a pretty good college. So, yaay!

3. This year, I've made many friends. In college and out. I ain't letting them go.

4. I've learnt a LOT of things. But then again, we learn everyday.

5. I blogged regularly.

6. I started listening to English music.

7. My phone bills increased exponentially. No regrets. Except that I don't save anymore.

8. Hugs are a major part of my life.

9. I say ILU more.

Today,

1. They played RHTDM on the bus instead of stupid kannada FM. I love the songs in that movie.

2. The exam went good.

3. I got an award from Jagjit. Personalized. Plus I like the typo in it the best!

4. Balloons from Crystal. Balloons are the best.

5. I spoke to Express on the phone. I love you, girl.

6. I got invited to two parties I'm not going to attend because I'm too sleepy. I don't get invited when I'm all ready to party. *sigh*

7. Mum made palak paneer for dinner. And hot chapathis. No wonder I don't lose weight!!

8. It's new year! Though I have exams and all, I'm still excited!

9. Because it is 2009!! I get to write 9 everywhere!

Have a great year, people!

The Princess Goes Rock Hunting

Diamonds.

For my eighteenth.

I'd be lying if I said this didn't affect me at all. Also if I said that it changed me totally.

I am not a jewelry person. Especially gold stuff. I like colours and textures more. That is why junk jewelry is perfect for me. Not the stones, HATE tiny red/green stones embedded in stuff.

I prefer to roam the streets instead of sitting next to my mum/aunt in the a.c. room and look at of gold/diamond. Go to a temple. Eat an ice candy. Anything EXCEPT sit in that showroom. It is boring, it really is. You like it, you buy it. If you can't afford it, tough luck. Four hours is too much. And jewelry is nothing to get THAT excited about. You're paying SO much. You have to be happy after. If you aren't, it probably wasn't worth it.

So, anyway, this was the birthday present we went hunting for. I selected one by half an hour tops. Mum wanted to see how this looked and how that looked on me. So, that took time. I actually wanted to buy this gold pendant which was in the shape of a trumpet. It was really so cute, but had no diamonds in it, so, not allowed. I finally chose a girly, pretty one. I'm happy with it. Dad came along too. He was really bored. But he tried. Which was sweet. He actually picked stuff out and asked me if I liked it. Awww...

My first diamond.

Neethu is still my best friend, so THAT hasn't changed.

Those of you going diamond shopping, wearing a high neck tee is a bad idea. I had to keep tugging at the neck to see how it would look on skin instead of on black.

And oh... I can wear eyeliner PERFECTLY. I did not practice. I just put it on very carefully and it was perfect. Yaay!!

Go Buffalo, Go. Or Stay. :P

I witnessed my first Kambala today!! :

Kambala is traditionally a simple sport. The 'track' used for Kambala is a paddy field filled with slush. The contest generally takes place between two pairs of buffaloes, controlled by a whip-lashing farmer. In olden days, the winning pair of buffaloes were rewarded with coconuts and a bunch of plantains. But, Kambala today has become an organised, professional sport. People place massive amounts of bets on the winning buffaloes.

It was held practically next to my house- near my favourite hideout- the lake. It was so eventful!!

I hadn't even heard of a Kambala till I saw the posters and banners put up all over town.

The bufalloes aren't treated that well. They are whipped and angered so that they run the whole stretch.

The slushy mud flying everywhere- That was fun!!

After that, there was this tribal dance thing that we watched.

It was a first for me.

Accident

Our college bus met with an accident today. We were returning home.

I was looking out of my window,
listening to music,
suddenly, heard lots of screaming
and pieces of glass flying everywhere. I closed my eyes, ducked.
Thought the bus would topple.
It didn't.

A few people got injured- glass pieces got into their body. Nothing major, but nothing minor either.

(Our bus- All windows panes except one were shattered. The steel rod came off.)

It was bad-the whole experience. Blood and glass everywhere. Feeling real low. I just hope whoever was hurt, recovers ASAP.

The happiest day of my life!!! :D

Well... some things just make ur day!!

However insignificant they may be to the rest of the world, in the end, you gotto live with yourself and what you think matters the most.. :)

I'll give every minute minute detail here- my memory sux and I just want to remember all the tiny things that happened today!! :)

Well.. most of the morning was normal stuff and in the afternoon, I had my mechanical workshop.. That, in other words was 4 hours of manual labor!! :(
The first five minutes was really fun and exciting for me.. Later, i just wanted to die!! :P
Filing metal blocks with a file with apparently no difference was kinda boring, frustrating and most of all- pointless!! After all that sweating, seeing like 5 grams of dust on the workshop table is NOT AT ALL satisfying, take it from me!!

After class, I was thirsty, lazy to walk to a cooler so I emptied 5 peoples water bottles.. I still am thirsty right now.. but that isn't important... :)

So so so... there we were on the bus- 120 of us in a 52 seater(that's right!!).. I was texting and listening to FM.. The gal sitting next to me was not much of a talker so i was drifting.....until a guy tapped my shoulder.

"Are you Divya?"
"Yeah. I am..." (I was realli confused coz i had never noticed him before and he knew my name! :P )
"Come on back.. We want to talk to you.."
"Fine!" (Frankly speaking, i was really excited.. my heart was pounding- but i WAS excited!!)
So i went on to the back of the bus- a whole load of seniors sitting around, looking eager as well- i was their first prey)
"Sit over here" said a guy in a blue shirt pointing toward a spare tyre..
"No thanks, i prefer standing"
"No you've GOT to sit there- those are the rules"
( I argued quite a bit with him- just for the fun of it and finally sat on my assigned seat)
"Give us an intro now.."
"Well okay (and i did that)... So what else?"
(I got asked a couple more questions which i answered..)
"Okay.. now we will introduce ourselves- name, year and branch.. You gotto remember and then repeat all of it.. If u forget any detail, u'll have to tell it twenty times..."
"nooooooooooooooooooooo.............."
(NO heed paid to that plea..)
And then it started.. "Hey, I'm Rohit..bla bla... I'm Naman.. bla bla..."
I am really bad at names.. REALLY.. So when 25 odd people introduced themselves, it did not help AT all...
So i was asked to go around the bus and find out their names- it was a TOTAL waste of time.. No one was helping, really, people were just giving me wrong names and i was being shuttled around..

Then the ragging was "officially DONE".. One senior got up and made me sit there (which was really sweet coz they could have asked me to continue sitting on that tyre) while he stood up for the rest of the journey... Then they asked me to do a couple more things- like tell the Bow Wow tables (I'm sure u know what that is).. Then they also asked me to pick a guy i found really cute and ask him his name..Yeah.. I wriggled out of that too..(can u imagine??? :P )

For the rest of the journey, i was in the back with them... :)
It felt nice. Really. Not that i expected otherwise.

But u just feel good when things go just the way u expected them to go.. Even a little better, maybe..

I wanted to be ragged.
I was.

I wanted to be friends with the seniors later.
I am now.

Plus- It made my day totally worthwhile!! :)

I'm eating my second bar of dark chocolate right now.
CAN LIFE GET ANY BETTER???

Totally looking forward to brag about the rag.. ;)

My Third First :P

It's 2:15 am and i just decided to make my blog private. Well, i get excited real easy and i HAD to write something right away.

I'm going to be a new ME from today. Not totally though, I feel i'm really great in certain areas. That ain't gonna change! :D

Well, college starts in less than a month away, I have done exactly what i wanted to do these holidays - basically catch up on all the sleep I missed out on in the past few years. Well, it is two in the morning and i have set an alarm for 5:30 so i don't think i'm getting much sleep right now, but that's okay.

Since this is my first private entry, i've decided to talk about something that i have never spoken about earlier. Weight loss. I know it probably sounds corny but its true . :)

I've always been a chubby kid right from when I was a baby. But as i grew older, it started to put down my self esteem. I felt real low whenever i thought about my weight. I hated to come in front of a camera or a mirror. I really did. It was not like my friends were leaving me out or anything. They did not make fun of me. I still have the same bunch of friends even now. So its pretty great, I love them like crazy :)

Well, every thing has a breaking point- something that pushes you over the edge. Mine was when J cracked a pretty mean joke about me.I was in 11th grade. It was not in public or anything, we were texting each other and he said something- i really don't remember what it was right now. It was not hurtful as such. But it was just not the done thing to say.Well, that made me feel really bad. My friends are the closest to my heart. So if they hurt me, i really get upset. I just turned off my cell phone and went to bed weeping that night.

The next morning, i decided that there HAD to be some changes.

It started with the food. I controlled the size of my portions. I stopped ice cream and sweets. I don't know why but it was not hard to do at all. The hectic schedule in college helped. So did the rotten food available at the college canteen. I used to cycle nearly 10 kms a day - not for the exercise though. I used to walk, initially. But then I barely had time to spend at home and I wasn't allowed a vehicle so I got myself a cycle.

I got results. Not immediately, but eventually. My jeans started getting loose. People started noticing my weight loss- which really doesn't matter 'coz i was doing it for ME. to get my self esteem back.

Well, in this "new skin" , i probably look a lot different. I feel a bit better too. Not lots though, i got to admit. I really got to get my self esteem up higher 'coz i know what i feel inside is not right.

The good stuff is I get to wear sizes i never even imagined in my wildest dreams i could get into. Some of my clothes are actually "small"... LOL.. Most are mediums but yaay anyway! I have this really cute lil black shirt from victoria's secret that my aunt bought me from the US. No one has ever seen me wear that. I'm too shy .. :"> .. but when i wear that, i really do feel much better. I've also kept my fav tee from back when I hadn't lost weight yet. I got to bed wearing that sometimes. It gets me all emotional. *sniff*

Till date, i have dropped 45 pounds. (It sounds much more in pounds ;) ) I want to lose 5 kgs more (That should sound less coz that's a goal and it has to sound achievable to me :) ). That's just wishful thinking, though. Not to say I'm not going to try. I'm getting up at 5:30 tomorrow and going for a morning jog.
