Why I Like Marathons

I love Diwali. Everything about it. :)
The little lamps, the fairy lights and the infinite number of sweets are an added bonus.

This is what happened today.

Got up. Checked blog (notice how facebook is replaced by blogger now, thanks to all you awesome people commenting). Brushed teeth.

Breakfast, followed by more blogging and facebooking.

Then, the oil bath. It is basically what it sounds like. You have to massage a thin film of oil all over your body and then wash it off with steaming hot water (preferably have someone to do it for you).
Apparently this was one of the ‘romantic’ things people looked forward to. A couple of decades ago. People used to get to live in big joint families where privacy was not an option. So once a year, during Diwali, the wife would do this for her kids and then her husband. Which gave her time to talk to him (this time was used to complain mostly, but still, somehow, it comes under romantic).
Getting back to topic, the results are best if you do the oil massage and then soak some sun for an hour or two. Then the H–O–T bath. Then go sleep on the bed, under a fan revolving at high speed. I slept. For five hours straight. :)

Watched a movie.

Then we went to the firework display. Manipal is a small town. Almost the entire town comes down to watch this 45minute firework display. I never miss it. It is waaay too much fun when so many people do something together. That is the key– togetherness. Which is why I like festivals. And marathons.

I wish you all a very happy, safe and fun Deepavali.

PS: Deceptive title. I know. Mwhahahahahaha

The Woman

She entered the bus, slowly, carefully, cautiously.

Her hair, wasn't combed neatly or even cared for, but it had texture and it had shine. She was pretty in her own way. A diamond in the rough, if you may.

The people in the bus looked at at her, quite reprovingly at that, analyzing her every move. She picked out a seat by the window and sat there, quietly, without a word

People got back to doing their things. Talking. listening to music. Looking after their noisy children.
The bus started to move and the conductor went from seat to seat, collecting fares. He reached her seat.

She did not notice him.
"Ticket?", he asked, gruffly, indicating her to hand out the fare and announce her destination. She still did not notice him.
The conductor was getting impatient. He shouted, "Where do you want to go?".

No reply.
"You don't have any money, do you? Get out of the bus. NOW!"

She didn't budge. He yelled. And yelled some more. All the curses he could think of. The fact that she was a woman did not hold him back. She did not show any signs of caring or getting up from her seat.

He called for the cleaner. The cleaner tried to talk to her, in a voice which was so loud that it could be easily called screaming.
They came to the conclusion that she was deaf. And dumb. The cleaner went and got an umbrella. He started poking her with it, not stopping his screaming. Now, there was fear in her eyes. She did not know what to do. She had no clue what was going on. She was scared.

All the screaming and prodding confused her, frightened her. Her eyes begged them to stop.

I don't know what happened after that. Whether they finally managed to get her out of there. Or she herself decided to leave. She was still in the bus when I got off. They were still cursing.

It was after all....one ticket.

Seven Odd Facts About Me.. (Tag)

My third tag! Firebolt tagged me this time.

First off, the rules:
1. Link to your tagger and list these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog - some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blog.
4. Let them know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Hmm.. Well seven facts, eh? Okay, these are not prioritized or anything. Am just going to type the first thing that pop into my head....

1. When I eat chocolate bars, I don't cut off the tiny squares and pop them in my mouth .
I have to unwrap the foil and bite into it. It gives me some kind of contentment.

2. I need hugs. Everyday.

3. I check my mail at 2:30 in the am sometimes.

4. I absolutely hate it when people say "I love you" or "I am sorry" without meaning it. Say it if you mean it a hundred percent. Don't hurt people on purpose. I also hate it when people make personal comments about others- especially about stuff they cannot change.
(For example- how a person laughs. Do not say that it is silly. Ever. Because laughter is a way of expressing happiness. NOONE looks bad when they laugh or smile. Don't make people think twice about laughing!!)

5. I cannot sleep without Fudgie, my huge brown soft toy dog. I got him 2 years ago.

6. I believe that you get what you want from life. If you really really want it deep deep down, you'll get it. Definitely.

7. I currently own eleven bottles of perfume. It's not like I use them all. I can only use one when the previous one gets over.

There you go. Seven. And I tag...
1. Ki
2. Divvu
3. Deluded
4. Seriously Frivolous
5. Dishi
6. Vigneshwar
7. Alok

Why is it that things change?

It seemed perfect once.
It is all going away.
It's slipping away.
I can see.
I don't want it to happen.
And I can do nothing about it.

There is no guarantee,
no certainty.
The only thing I get is words.
Promises.
Which, again, I can't hold you to
'cos its totally up to you.

I wish I could
just forget about the past
I wouldn't be disappointed then
would I?
I needn't remember how good things were
to realize them going bad now.
No memories
hence, No expectations,.

But that just doesn't happen.
It becomes impossible to love,
to live.

Heartbreaks are inevitable I guess
But what do I do
if there are one-too-many?

Never In My Wildest Dreams...

My mum asks me if I want to get married.
I say yes.
She finds a guy for me. I haven't seen him.
He is about 15 years older than me.
It is my wedding day. The preparations are done.
I am sitting at home.
I realize this is NOT what I want. I want to enjoy life. I want some freedom. I don't want to be married to some guy who is almost double my age.
No.I don't. I just don't.
And besides, I am underage! This can't happen!
I call my mom. I tell her exactly this. And she shuns me off. "Nothing can be done now. You should have spoken earlier. People have been invited. And you'll be an adult in a couple of months, don't worry about it. "

I am shocked. Devastated.
See my life ending and I can do nothing about it.
I go out of the house. I am alone at home. It is raining. I just walk, getting wet.
Then I take out my cell phone.
Call my friend. I tell him I do not want to get married.
"But, I am a minor" (I keep repeating that for some reason)
He tries to help, though there is nothing he can do.

And I start sobbing...

This is when I get up from my sleep. I get up crying. My pillow is a little damp.

This dream totally disturbed me.
I believe dreams have hidden meanings.
Can you guess what this one meant?

Be my dream-analyzers. Come on!

THREE DAYS

Three days without internet.
Three days without facebook.
Three days without blogging.

THREE DAYS.

WITHOUT.

You get what I'm saying, don't cha?

It was BAD. I am addicted. So i suffered bigtime.
I wasn't getting any studying done, and I hadn't done any studying.
So the net HAD to go.
I considered confiscating my celly too, but I didn't wanna be harsh on myself. What if I actually diedof lack of human-interaction-through-electronic devices?? I ripped out my net ka cable and carried it to college, gave it to my buddy. That was the only way.

How I survived:
  • Sleep
  • Dream
  • SMS
  • Call
  • Think of all the stuff I could have blogged about when I had net
  • Make my friend check for blog comments and face book wall posts
(Thanks LOADS for the comments!! It was a nice feeling. To hear a "yes" to these desperate questions.)
  • Try to go online in my cellphone
  • Switch on the laptop every five hours. Run Mozilla. Get "error in connecting to server" message. Switch off.
  • ..........................and a little studying, but mainly the stuff above
The exams went okay. Terrible, actually, by normal standards, but mine was extremely last minute, so I'll go with 'okay'.

I have my cable back. And I can facebook again. Life makes sense.

PS: I have noticed-I get very vulnerable during exams.
End up crying for some totally unrelated minor thing.
